VI COMMANDO

Prt. Hale F. Gearhart, formally of the 168^th Rifle Regiment of the Iowa National Guard (34^th Division), served with No.9 (US) Troop of No.6 Commando from about 3rd September 1942 until 4th February 1943.

It is known that Prt. Gearhart was captured by Vichy French forces during the mistaken assault on the Ilot de la Marine on 8th November 1942, but was liberated five days later when Allied forces took Algiers. He then returned to the Commando.
